Polluters

The Seattle Green Bag Fee is opposed by the “Coalition to Stop the Bag Tax” which is funded by the American Chemistry Council, the lobby representing oil and plastics companies like Exxon and Dow Chemical. Hailing from Washington D.C. and Virginia, they are hardly representatives of the values of Seattle shoppers. The American Chemistry Council opposes this legislation for one, simple reason: they are profiting from the sale of disposable plastics, like bags. And this plastics lobby is willing to pour thousands of dollars into campaigns to defeat grassroots efforts to protect their profits.

Check the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission website for an update on the $250,000 investment that the American Chemistry Council has made to ensure that Seattle shoppers are complicit in the plastic polluter profit scheme.
